Temporary exhibition - Nudes by Gina Kabler Thusek
An artist of Bohemian origin, Gina Kabler Thusek came to Merano at the beginning of World War II and stayed here until her death. A particularly interesting aspect of this artist is her versatility, having worked as a stylist as well as a sculptor and portraitist. In the artist's voluminous bequest, held by Palais Mamming Museum, there are numerous nude drawings that make clear Thusek's continuous search for confidence of line and her increasing tendency towards abstraction.
The small exhibition at Palais Mamming presents around 20 works spanning a time span from the first Academy drawings to now almost abstract movement studies. The drawings are enhanced by a sculpture, because this was Klaber Thusek's true vocation. The bequest also contains the complete correspondence with his brother, who lived in London, and his numerous diaries, a source of valuable information on the intentions, moods, successes and also moments of depression of the artist, who even in old age always displayed a vital and exuberant energy.
